Christmas Popsicle Stick Ornaments

Christmas Popsicle Stick Ornaments

I love having handmade ornaments on our Christmas tree, especially ones made by the kids. I still have ornaments on our tree that the big kids made when they were little and in Kindergarten. :) Actually, our tree has very few bought ornaments and most of those were gifts. To continue with the tradition of having lots of handmade kid ornaments on our tree, I set up this craft of making Christmas popsicle stick ornaments for Sammie.

She made two kinds of popsicle stick ornaments, reindeer and trees.

To make the reindeer ornaments, I didn’t have any brown popsicle sticks. So with a Sharpie marker, I coloured some of our regular popsicle sticks brown. I didn’t have any brown or regular tongue depressor size, but I had some dark orange sticks, so we decided to use those.  I used the hot glue gun to glue 3 sticks into a reindeer shape for Sammie to decorate. I set out some googly eyes and red and brown pom poms for noses.

She decided to use the orange sticks instead of the brown ones lol

For the Christmas tree ornaments, I glued the popsicle sticks into a triangle shape. I set out Christmas coloured pom poms, rhinestone gems and little Christmas coloured bells.
If you have some brown popsicle sticks, you could cut some off on end and use the cut piece as a tree truck at the bottom of the tree ornament. This would make them look a bit more like trees than a triangle. :)

Christmas Popsicle Stick Ornaments - making trees

Sammie had a lot more fun making the tree Christmas popsicle stick ornaments than she did making the reindeer ones. I think because she had a lot more choices for the trees. The reindeer ornaments really didn’t have much options as they are made a certain way, whereas the trees, she could pick what she wanted on them and how to put to them on.

Once all the glue was dry and Sammie was done decorating the popsicle stick ornaments, I hot glued a loop of shiny thread to the top of each ornament.

I think these popsicle stick ornaments are going to look so cute hanging on our tree. :) I can’t wait to get our tree and start decorating it.

There are lots of different ways to turn popsicle sticks into Christmas ornaments. :) I think we will be trying out some more ways to make Christmas ornaments from popsicle sticks.  When we do, I will be sure to share them with everyone.
